These priorities are being developed based on my experiences serving our community and conversations with constituents.
During the upcoming term of council, as Mayor I am committed to developing a financial master plan to introduce zero-based budgeting for the next two years. We will achieve this by working with our financial team at Central Elgin, holding staff accountable to the municipality's needs vs. wants, and collaborating with surrounding municipalities for shared services.
If elected as Mayor, I will encourage smart growth within the hospital lands, negotiate with the City of St. Thomas to promote a business park on the Airport lands, and lobby the Provincial Government to make a regional water board which would aid in holding the water and wastewater rates for the next two years as a start to the process. Both taxes and water/wastewater rates will be reassessed at the two year mark of the next four year term, once the entire council has a thorough understanding of the process.
As Mayor of Central Elgin, my primary objective is to work collaboratively with fellow elected councillors, together with our staff, to build a relationship of trust between members for the greater good of the citizens of our community.
I will foster transparency through social media and print, with monthly council updates that encompass all five wards.
In order to hold the line on property taxes, I am committed to developing a Financial Master Plan to maintain zero-based budgeting at or below the annual rate of inflation and will look for ways to do more with less.
Let’s prioritize the spending of municipal revenue on the needs which, when prioritized and satisfied, allow us to address the wants.
We’ll have an eye to operations and budgets in all departments to ensure efficiency and optimize operational costs while maintaining services.
As an advocate on behalf of the citizens of Central Elgin to the provincial and federal governments regarding intergovernmental matters, I commit to obtaining maximum financial support for Central Elgin residents.
Municipal government must meet the service needs of residents and businesses.
I stand by my claim that experience matters. My business experience is an asset in monitoring the provincial transition of the Hospital Lands; as well as negotiating cost-sharing opportunities with neighbouring municipalities.
Every County in Ontario has experienced the disruption of rapid growth; Central Elgin is not alone.
Let’s honour our County’s character. Let’s keep the village vibe of our communities: Belmont, Dexter, Lawton’s Corners, Lyndale, Lynhurst, Mapleton, New Sarum, Norman, Port Stanley, Sparta, Union, Whites and Yarmouth Centre. Let’s sustain the rural roots of our County’s countryside.
As we explore housing opportunities and tourism activities, let’s stay committed to sustainable growth. Central Elgin may then be affordable, safe, and beautiful for generations.
I will promote 2 free yearly Port Stanley parking permits for each household in Central Elgin.
If elected, I would be honoured to continue to serve all residents, so that visitors will hear a resounding "I love where I live" from every local.
